BOOK JACKETS

Book Jackets is a book club celebrating some of the latest young adult (YA) books. Each 9 weeks, we will cover a new book. Students will receive a copy of the book and we will discuss it during club meetings. The club meets in the Media Center.
DEBATE CLUB
SPONSORS: Mr. Bellamy
Students work together to learn argument and speaking skills, research and write cases to compete in local, regional, and national weekend debate tournaments. Events include Lincoln-Douglas, Public Forum, Policy, and Student Congress debate. In addition, the team meets during club periods and practices to prepare for weekend debate tournaments held at schools and colleges, leading to the Georgia state championship in March and potential national competition. The debate club meets the interests of students who want to improve speaking and critical thinking skills in a rigorous and competitive environment. See Mr. Bellamy for information on dues.
MOCK TRIAL
SPONSORS: Mr. Bellamy
The Mock Trial Club develops a legal case for trial through witness affidavits, evidence, and case law. Students act as lawyers and witnesses. Students learn how to put forward a case for their particular side: prosecution/plaintiff or defense. The Club supports forming a competitive mock trial team that participates in competitions, including a regional tournament in January. Selected members of the club present the case in a courtroom to legal experts. The mock trial club meets the interests of those who want to learn more about the law and want to participate in lively debates and legal arguments. See Mr. Bellamy for information on dues.
NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY

Invitations to join NHS will be mailed in the fall to juniors and seniors who have at least a 90% average and good discipline. Directions for joining will be attached to the invitations. Being involved with NHS requires good grades, good behavior, and community involvement.

FBLA: Future Business Leaders of America

FBLA provides innovative leadership development programs to bring business and education together in a positive working relationship. Participation in FBLA-PBL can have a direct impact on the direction and success of a young person's career. Millions of students have learned through active membership in FBLA-PBL about the world of business and what is expected of them in the workplace. We compete at regional, state, and national competitions involving over 140 different areas of competition. See Mr. Haskin for information on dues.
FGE: Future Georgia Educators

The Future Georgia Educators (FGE) is a student organization dedicated to supporting young people interested in education-related careers and is geared toward students in ECE III or the ECE internship class. They are a national community of more than 10,000 student and mentor participants in school-based, grow-your-own-teacher programs. Since over 60% of teachers teach within 20 miles of where they went to high school, every community has an interest in proactively recruiting and supporting their next generation of local educators. FCCLA: Family, Career & Community Leaders of America

FCCLA is the only in school student organization with the family as its central focus. FCCLA provides opportunities for active student participation at local, state, and national levels including service learning, competition and leadership development. See Ms. Barrow for information on dues.

The FFA will meet for after school FFA meetings, practice for Career Development Events, and coordinate other FFA functions.
HOSA: Health Occupations Students of America

Future Health Professionals is a group that represents all those in health science or those interested in health careers after high school. Students attend local health facilities and interact in regional as well as state competitions to learn more and understand more about the available health careers. SkillsUSA
SPONSORS: Mr. Barrett & Mr. Clapper
SkillsUSA is a nationally recognized club that helps develop career technical students. We have 2 divisions depending upon which class the student is enrolled in: Metals and Automotive. We meet as a group then have breakout sessions with one of the 2 fields of study. We have competition teams that compete in Regional Competitions and can qualify for State and Nationals as well. See Mr. Clapper for information on dues.

KEY CLUB

Key Club is an international student-led organization which provides its members with opportunities to provide service, build character, and develop leadership. The club’s vision is to “develop competent, capable, and caring leaders through the vehicle of service. Activities this school year include many community service projects with a goal of building good character. Key club also sponsors an annual Powder Puff game. International and state membership are required each year, so see Ms. Burnette about dues.
STUDENT COUNCIL

Student Council is an organization of elected class officers and representatives. Student Council members collaborate with their advisor and school administration to impact our school, community, and student interests. Student Council promotes opportunities for networking, development of leadership skills, and personal growth. Student Council members should have a willingness to serve in leadership roles and community service activities. Students seeking to be a part of Student Council should have an overall B average or better, good attendance, and a clear discipline record.

FCA: Fellowship of Christian Athletes

Fellowship of Christian Athletes is a club whose mission is to present to athletes and coaches and all whom they influence the challenge and adventure of receiving Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord, serving Him in their relationships and in the fellowship of the church. Highlights of the year include FSU Game Day, Fields of Faith, FCA summer camps for the football, boys and girls basketball, and wrestling teams, and many other volunteer opportunities in our community.
